Architecture Building Design Exhibit, America’s Favorite Buildings

What buildings resonate to Americans? On select dates this summer, furniture manufacturer Haworth will host an exhibit of America’s favorite buildings — selected via a public poll — in its Holland, Michigan headquarters. Organized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in celebration of the organization’s 150th Anniversary in 2007, “America’s Favorite Architecture” will follow the theme “Celebrating the Past, Designing the Future.”

New Project Asymptote Architecture Luxury Residential Tower and Interior Design

At a height of 525 feet, the Strata Tower will be the tallest building in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dana precinct in Al Raha Beach.

New York-based Asymptote Architecture has broken ground on a 40-story luxury residential tower in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The latest addition to the region’s desert skyline, the Strata Tower has a projected height of 525 feet and will be the tallest building in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dana precinct in the Al Raha Beach development. Completion is scheduled for 2011.

Architecture Awarded in Canada

Top architecture talent in Canada was recently singled out by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the Canada Council for the Arts for the annual Governor General’s Medals in Architecture. This year 12 projects received a nod through the program, which recognizes “outstanding achievement” in new projects by Canadian architects that positively impact the country’s built environment.

Among the list of winners are buildings for higher education, community and cultural centres, a church, a museum, and two residences. Read more » »
