Twenty firms took to the stage of the Scotiabank Theater in Vancouver last month to accept the Interior Designers Institute of British Columbia Awards of Excellence. Hosted by Canadian TV personality Russell Porter, the program conferred 27 awards for projects in 10 categories: Residential, Multi-Residential, Hospitality, Workplace Total, Workplace Partial, Educational and Institutional, Retail, Health and Wellness, Other, and Best of Show.

The “garden-inspired design” China Museum Project

China is keeping RTKL busy: The architecture and engineering firm has over 10 projects in the country. The latest to hit the boards is a 5,000-square-foot expansion for the National Art Museum of China in Beijing.

RTKL was singled out from over 100 design firms over a two-year, five-phase elimination process, in a highly-competitive competition. The firm’s contemporary design, including an underground entry, earned points for sensitivity to the historic context of the site.

Steven Holl to Design Convertible Energy Center

The energy center will function as one centralized energy source for all of the waterfront properties.

Steven Holl Architects (SHA) will design an innovative, adaptable energy center for the first new waterfront neighborhoods in Toronto. The 37,700-square-foot District Energy Centre in the West Don Lands will initially supply cooling and heating via natural gas to the 2,000-acre publicly-owned Waterfront Toronto, a $1 billion waterfront revitalization initiative.

American Architecture Award Winners on View in New York

The exhibit puts the spotlight on firms considered the most talented in the nation.

Architecture defined by a prestigious awards program as the best in the U.S. will be on view at furniture manufacturer Kimball Office’s New York showroom, November 15-December 14. The exhibition celebrates the winners of the 2007 American Architecture Awards, organized by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. On November 15, Kimball Office will host an opening reception from 5pm-7pm.
