Architecture Building Design Exhibit, America’s Favorite Buildings

What buildings resonate to Americans? On select dates this summer, furniture manufacturer Haworth will host an exhibit of America’s favorite buildings — selected via a public poll — in its Holland, Michigan headquarters. Organized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in celebration of the organization’s 150th Anniversary in 2007, “America’s Favorite Architecture” will follow the theme “Celebrating the Past, Designing the Future.”

New Project Asymptote Architecture Luxury Residential Tower and Interior Design

At a height of 525 feet, the Strata Tower will be the tallest building in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dana precinct in Al Raha Beach.

New York-based Asymptote Architecture has broken ground on a 40-story luxury residential tower in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The latest addition to the region’s desert skyline, the Strata Tower has a projected height of 525 feet and will be the tallest building in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dana precinct in the Al Raha Beach development. Completion is scheduled for 2011.

Tile and Stone Experience for Home Decoration Coverings 2008

Annual tile and stone conference Coverings debuts a new speaker format in 2008. Instead of its standard opening day headliner during its stay at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center, April 29-May 2, the event will feature a total of six keynote speakers.

Author Mark Matteson will kick off the convention on Tuesday morning, April 29, with “The Art of Change,” a session aimed at installers and contractors. Later that day architects and interior designers will have a chance to hear Gisue and Mojgan Hariri, the sisters behind New York firm Hariri & Hariri Architecture.

AIA NY Announces Building Type Award Winners

Categories included Educational Facilities, Sustainable Projects, and Urban Design.

An ecologically instructive visitors’ center, a public waterfront park in Manhattan, and a historic Beaux-Arts bank turned sustainable library in Providence, Rhode Island are among the winners of a new biennial awards program launched by the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA NY) and the Boston Society of Architects. The Building Type Design Awards honor architectural excellence and innovation in specialized design fields.
