Judges said: “Special requirements for opening day included completion of all electrical substation rooms, the fire alarm system, security system, sports lighting, the clubs and suites, and the emergency electrical generation system.”

Group seeks board’s help to sell building

Building a Better Brattleboro must repay a $150,000 grant or get the state of Vermont to waive the repayment if it wants to sell the Robert H. Gibson River Garden to a private development group.

Officials from the nonprofit downtown business group met with the Brattleboro Select Board Thursday morning as it seeks the town’s support to sell the quasi-public building to the Windham Development Group.

Foundation celebrates history, looks to future in new building

he boxes were being unloaded Thursday morning, and the Spartanburg County Foundation’s staff walked around envisioning what the new building will look like without the clutter and hand trucks.

The foundation has moved to 424 E. Kennedy St. after spending 14 years at its previous location at the corner of East Main and Alabama streets.

“We’re building for future growth and expansion,” said John Dargan, the foundation’s president and CEO.

Kabukicho green-lights new image

Tokyo’s Kabukicho district is trying to shake off its image as being an area of shady businesses and the hub of the capital’s sex industry. To date, some progress has been made, but more efforts are needed before the nation’s No. 1 amusement center earns a reputation as a respectable neighborhood.

An outdoor fashion show was held at the Cine City square in front of Kabukicho’s symbolic Koma Stadium on the evening of Oct. 20. A large crowd of people crowded round the stage to watch models clad in stylish clothes on the catwalk.
