Vic and Qld dominate architecture awards

Buildings and architects in Queensland and Victoria have scooped most of top prizes at Australia’s most prestigious annual architecture awards.

The new State Library, the Gallery of Modern Art and Riparian Plaza in Brisbane along with the Eureka Tower and Southern Cross Station in Melbourne took out top prizes at the 2007 Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) National Architecture Awards.

Interior design chapter presents its 2007 awards

Interior designer Marjorie Slovack of Marjorie Slovack Design was laden with awards after the annual presentation event held Sept. 20 by the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers.

Slovack took top honors in three residential categories and also won a first place award for work in the commercial arena.

Harden Furniture Announces Best Customization Story Winner

An interior designer has earned an expense-paid trip for two to San Francisco with an amusing story about the quest for the perfect seat cushion. Dean Touloumes, on staff at David’s Furniture and Interiors in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, has been selected as the winner of furniture manufacturer Harden Furniture’s Best Customization Story Contest.

The contest was a special promotion launched for Harden’s nearly 40 Home Studio dealers, and includes tickets to San Francisco’s Annual Design + Home Show, October 26-28.

Touloumes described a couple’s journey to the perfect seat cushions for a Harden upholstered wedge sofa. After several hours of test-sitting the complete selection of cushion fillings, a friend helped them decide on a relaxed down option.

Touloumes was honored at Harden’s June Customer Day event in McConnellsville, where he received the winning certificate from Harden sales representative Jim Mosellen.
